Oris is in private beta

Thank you for your patience. Oris is ready for private beta and I’m glad to put it in the hands of the waitlisted users first.

What Oris is

Oris is a Mac app that takes notes from your meetings without joining the call. No bot pops into the room as a fifth participant. It records you through your mic and everyone else through your system audio then transcribes and summarizes the whole thing on your Mac. What you get back is a clean Markdown note in your Obsidian vault: a summary, the decisions, the action items, and a speaker-labeled transcript.

Record, hang up, and a few minutes later the note is sitting in your vault.

Where your audio goes

Your audio never leaves your Mac. Transcription runs on-device, so the recording itself is never uploaded anywhere. When it’s time to write the summary, the default is also on-device. If you’d rather use a cloud model for that part, you can point Oris at one with your own API key, but that’s your call to make, and local is always there as the fallback.

The promise I’ll stand behind is local-first: the raw audio, transcript, and summarization of your conversation stays on the machine that captured it unless you opt otherwise.

Getting started

Check your email for the download link. The first launch is a short guided walkthrough: it finds your Obsidian vault, sets up the plugin, walks you through the permissions Oris needs with a quick audio test, and preps the on-device models. Then you record your first meeting.

You’re shaping it

You’re in the private beta and as the people who use Oris first you should be the ones who shape where it goes.

My ask is that you tell me what you think.

  • The summary nailed it?
  • The setup step could be smoother?
  • You want more customization?
  • Any features you wish existed?

Record a meeting, see what comes back, and tell me how it felt.
